Hello, my name is Mary Attwood and welcome to my website.
How did you answer the question at the head of this page?
Did you say to yourself "yes"? I did.
I have certainly felt overwhelmed at times by all the events that have happened, from ensuring I stay safe when I needed to buy the essential grocery item etc. to not being able to see my family and friends due to social distancing.
This in itself can make the most resilient person feel fed up, anxious, worried, isolated, lonely, trapped, frustrated even!
A lot of peoples' mental health has suffered since the Covid-19 situation forced the country to go into yet another lockdown. I've been fortunate to have someone to talk to about how I feel but there are some of you that haven't, therefore our anxiety levels are increased further than before.
Maybe I can help, but before I continue, let me tell you a little bit about how Purple Emperor Therapy Services came to be.....
I chose the name Purple Emperor Therapy Services in honour of one of my best friends who sadly passed away in October 2018. She started with me many years ago on our journey training to be counsellors, but sadly due to health reasons, she was unable to continue. Despite her illness, she was there to support me every step of the way and when I gained my qualification, I vowed to her that my therapy services would be for both of us. As we both love butterflies and her favourite colour was purple, I felt it made sense to look for a purple butterfly. Upon searching, I found that we have the Purple Emperor Butterfly here in this country which couldn't have been more appropriate, hence the title!
As a Counsellor, I have always had a belief that we all have the answers to many of our problems within us,
but sometimes we need a little help for us to achieve this.
When you are feeling anxious, low or when you're at your most vulnerable, deciding to seek help is the first biggest step you will take towards having a better well-being. Trying to find the right therapist is the second biggest step and this can be the hardest.
It feels like a daunting task, doesn't it?
It can feel like you've stepped into a maze but don't know which way to turn. This alone can make you feel even more anxious, lost and confused than you're feeling right now. There are so many counsellors out there, but which one do you choose?
Remember, when making your choice, you are in control of your own well-being.
Along with online, video and telephone counselling, I also provide a
